Are you undergoing treatment which will cause hair loss?
Do you have severe alopecia?
Then you should not pay the VAT on your wig.
Customers who require wigs due to any medical reason such as alopecia or hair loss as a result of chemotherapy treatment that causes hair loss, or any other medical condition that causes hair loss and is confirmed by a GP, are classed as necessity wearers. If this applies to you, then you are entitled to receive the VAT off the cost of your wig. If you are in doubt as to whether you are eligible to receive goods at zero-rated for VAT you should consult Notice 701/7 VAT relief for disabled people or contact HMRC on 0300 123 1073.
This only applies to full wigs, not hairpieces or accessories.
If you qualify, all you need to do is fill in a’ Vat Relief Form’ when you purchase your wig….
